Dr. Fred Kizito is a Senior Scientist and he works at CIAT since 2013. Dr. Kizito holds a PhD in Soil Science from the Oregon State University (OSU), USA.

His research focuses on agriculture – environment interactions, restoring degraded landscape and sustainable intensification at multiple scales. He will also work on bottom up approaches to critical issues in landscapes such as land degradation, soil fertility decline, water scarcity and loss of biodiversity that result in reduced resilience of communities and tradeoffs amongst others.

Before that he worked for International Water Management Institute (IWMI) where he worked as Soil & Water Resources Management Researcher providing hydrological modeling research support at landscape levels to on-going projects in the Challenge Program on Water and Food (CPWF) focusing on watersheds primarily used for mixed-cropping systems in sub-Saharan Africa. He also served as Project Leader on four IWMI multi-country projects on landscape hydrology, ecosystem services and sustainable intensification in cereal based systems.
