Role in Dryland Systems:
Rachid Mrabet is a Research Director at INRA. He received his PhD in Agronomy from Colorado State University of Fort Collins, CO – USA (1997). He received his B.Sc. in Agricultural Engineering (1986) and MSc. in Soil Physics (1989) from Hassan II Agronomic & Veterinary Sciences Institute in Rabat (Morocco). He spent two years as adult special in Soil Physics at University of Minnesota (Saint Paul, MN, USA) (1986-88).
Since 2003 he has worked as Head of Scientific Division at INRA –Morocco. He was also Director of INRA’s Regional Agricultural Research Centers of Meknes (2003-2007) and of Tangiers (2007-2012).
He has published 43 refereed journal articles, written 35 book chapters, 5 books and 88 conferences articles. Currently he acts as member of WASWAC Board, member since 2003 of Editorial Advisory Board of Soil & Tillage Research and Associate Editor in Chief of International Soil and Water Conservation.
He received 3 international awards, 2 from the International Soil Tillage Research Organization and 1 from International Erosion Control Association (IECA). He also received a national award (price) for leadership in agricultural research from Morocco’s Ministry of Agriculture & Marine Fishery (2009).
Dr. Mrabet coordinated and/or served as member or consultant of over 40 projects financed by different national & international donors and institutions. He gathered a good teaching experience since he tough several courses on soil physics, water conservation, conservation agriculture, erosion processes, soil contamination, irrigation and drainage, Geographic Information Systems at National Universities, International Research and Development Organizations and NGO. He supervised 18 MSc and 4 PhD students.
