Intellectual Property & Legal Manager


Francesca Re Manning is the Intellectual Property (IP) & Legal Manager at ICARDA and legal consultant to CRP DS. She previously worked with the Legal Counsel of the Consortium Office in Montpellier and with the Central Advisory Service on Intellectual Property (CAS-IP) in Rome. 

She has extensive experience working within the CGIAR, having advised several Centres, including CIAT, CIMMYT, CIP, and Africa Rice on how to manage their intellectual assets to ensure the dissemination of international public goods and the access and transfer of genetic material. She has been drafting and negotiating numerous agreements - both with the public and the private sector - including Monsanto and Nestlé, and advised on policy matters.

She trained as a solicitor in an international law firm based in England where she practiced intellectual property and commercial law.
She holds a Law Degree from the University of London, an LL.M. Master from the University of Cambridge, and a Bachelor Degree in International Law from the University of Siena, Italy.

She was also the Chair of UN Women, Cambridge, and has volunteering experience with other international organizations such as UNHCR, UNICEF and the Council of Europe.
