Role in Dryland Systems:
Dr. Suresh C. Alagundagi, is an Agronomy Scientist with 27 years of professional experience in forage crops research, forage production, sunflower seed production, Under graduate, Post graduate teaching and Dryland Agriculture.
He holds B.Sc (Agri) and M.Sc (Agri) in Agronomy from University of Agricultural Sciences, Dharwad, Karnataka and Ph.D (Agronomy) from Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar University Agra, Uttar Pradesh.
He has participated in 4 international, 9 national seminar/symposium/ conference/ workshops. He has developed 8 production technologies for the benefit of the farmers and involved in development of 5 forage crop varieties released by University of Agricultural Sciences, Dharwad.
He is holding the position of Chief Scientist AICRP-DA, Vijayapur, Karnataka for the past one year and handling the research and outreach activities focusing on rain water management, cropping systems, integrated nutrient management, energy management, participatory varietal selection and alternate land use systems. Involved in projects related to dryland systems collaborating with ICRISAT, Government of India and State Government.
He Served as Professor of Agronomy in University of Agricultural Sciences, Dharwad for 7 years, handling both Under graduate and post graduate teaching, post graduate research (Guided 11 Master’s and 2 Doctoral students and was member for 40 post graduate scholars) and Departmental administration.
He has authored 44 peer reviewed, research articles, 13 abstracts 3 book chapters and 50 popular articles in the field of various agronomic aspects, forage research and co-authored two books on dry land technologies.
He is life member for 8 professional societies including the Indian Society of Agronomy, The Andhra Agricultural Union, Indian Society of Forage Research, Indian Society of Agro-forestry and the Indian Society of Dryland Agriculture.
His current research activities focus on soil and moisture conservation technologies, dryland cropping systems, arid legumes, agri-horti systems, integrated nutrient management, forage resource management in rainfed areas.
