Dr. Mohammed El Mourid is an agronomist and crop physiologist, during the last thirty eight years, he has developed an experience in crop production, irrigation, cropping systems, drought resistance in cereals, crop modeling, farming systems , community and local development and technology transfer as well as in research management and coordination at national (Morocco) and international levels. Regional Coordinator for North Africa ICARDA since 1999, he has coordinated more than 50 regional and sub-regional research/development projects and contributed to the development of agricultural strategies and research for development Project in the Maghreb and Sub-Sahara Africa. He is a strong proponent of South-South Cooperation and agricultural-rural science based development.
He has been recipient of several awards and authored and co-authored more than 120 peer-reviewed publications, book chapters and conference papers.
He holds a PhD, in field of Study: AGRONOMY and Crop Physiology from Iowa State University (ISU) Ames Iowa USA.
He Served in several managerial positions as
1986-90: Head of Agronomy and Socio-Economics Departments(INRA Morocco)
1990-1998: Director of INRA Dryland Agriculture Center (Centre Aridoculture Settat Morocco)
1999-Today: ICARDA Regional Coordinator North Africa Program ( NARP)
He is active member of several scientific and professional associations such as American Society of Agronomy and Crop Science Society of America. USA,Association Nationale de Climatologie (ANACLIM, Maroc),Association Nationale pour la Production, la Protection et l'Amélioration Végétale (ANAPPAV, Morocco) and Société d’Agronomie, Morocco.
He is a recipient of several awards and honors, such us The C.R Weber Award of Excellence in Plant science, 1986, ISU, USA,The Honor of Society of Agriculture, Gamma, Sigma, Delta, 1985, ISU, USA, Staff of the Year 2005 ICARDA and Recognition from Morocco for Crop Production at National level, 2011
His current research interests focus on Sustainable Management on Natural Resources, Local development and Risk Management.
